Wandering in the Martis Valley-Fall 2008
October 11, 2008
The weather has really turned fallish and so on Thursday, because I had not had a chance to get to the gym I asked my brother-in-law to take a walk with me in the Martis Valley. It is funny, you can live in a place for 18 years and never realize that there is this awesome path out in that valley. We rush by so quickly in our cars and never stop to check it out. So we took an hour before dinner to get a little fresh air. There were lots of people out there with doggies, walking by the creek. We met one guy who had a sort of modified bike that was a 2-wheeler but it had no pedals, only brakes. Attached to his bike were 2 very atheletic looking dogs, short haired retreivers of some sort. They were pulling him across the valley on the trail. At first I thought perhaps he had a problem and could not pedal but come to find out that this too is a sport and that he and the dogs were training for a competition which is to be held in Washington State in a week or so. The stuff that we humans do to entertain ourselves — it is amazing, huh?
Here are some pictures of the Valley. Sure enough last night (Friday) it got extremely cold and snowed. This is not the real thing yet, but it is good enough to be the beginning of the real thing. Really makes me appreciate every day that it doesn’t snow.
