Squaw Valley Hike
November 17, 2008
Yesterday I had a chance to take advantage of the “one more day” syndrome. We locals know that well. It means that it REALLY should be cold and snowy here right now (looking at the calendar) but, it isn’t. So we go outside and try to take advantage of the weather as if we are going to die tomorrow and will never get a chance to see the area again.
I hope you can understand. Winter here is so cold and we have so much snow that, well you just can’t enjoy the outdoors like you can in summer. I mean, you can still enjoy the outdoors, but it is a totally different thing–you have to put on tons of clothes and heavy boots and gloves and all of that stuff.
So according to the “one more day” syndrome, you have to go see the place that will be the most impacted by the change in climate, the earliest. So, of course, we went to Squaw Valley, which 3 weeks from now (or maybe only 1 week) will be blanketed with 4-8 feet of snow. Here are some photos of my friends (notice, one has a charming smile on her face) as we hiked up Shirley Canyon alongside Shirley Creek. Aren’t you jealous?
