Social Networking

October 11, 2008

I am taking a web class to try to teach this old dog new tricks with regard to the internet.  Boy this communication instrument has really advanced (I guess) at super speed.  So, I am working on Twitter and Facebook and Linkedin and trying to figure out how to integrate that into my business.  I can see that it is really addictive.  I seem to learn something every time I get on the internet.  So, here is the coincidence.  One of the people in my social networking group is from my home state of Michigan, near my home town of Detroit.  She has a relative that lives in my little town of Truckee, California and of course, because it is a small town, I know her relative.  What are the chances of that?

This week the class was totally overwhelming.  After I got off the phone I was mentally exhausted.  This stuff is really for young brains.  I’m not saying that I won’t learn it, but it won’t be easy.

It also has become apparent to me that John McCain doesn’t really embrace the internet and web 2.0 like Barack Obama does.  You can see how the age groups line up with these candidates.  Mr. McCain is virtually absent from all of these social networking groups while Mr. Obama has advertisements all over the place.  I must say that he really has done a great job of promoting himself.  Now all his supporters have to do it go out and vote.  Wonder if they will. . . . .

Here is a couple of pictures I took of a scene in downtown Truckee — the cones are because the public works department is doing some sidewalk construction in Brickletown.  The guy with the witch is my brother-in-law.
