Glenshire-Devonshire

is located about 6 miles east of downtown Truckee.  This community consists primarily of full time residences.  It has its own elementary school, fire station, grocery store, video store, preschool, ballet studio and real estate office.  Considered the “Banana Belt” of Truckee, this area has the least amount of snowfall in all of Truckee.  Consequently snow removal here is the easiest making this place the ideal winter habitat.  The neighborhood has homes for sale with entry level price tags as well as those that span the economic spectrum.  The majority of the residents of this area commute to Reno, Nevada to work.

Glenshire has a homeowner’s association www.glenshiredevonshire.com, clubhouse, pool and tennis courts.  The annual membership fee are low (currently at $240) and they are mandatory.  Besides the aforementioned amenities, Glenshire-Devonshire is currently working on improving many of the trails throughout the subdivision for both walking and bike riding.  Additionally, Boca and Stampede Reservoirs are located just minutes from the development.

This area’s water is supplied by the Truckee Donner Public Utility District.  There is natural gas supplied by Southwest Gas.  The electric service in the area is split between The Truckee Donner Public Utility District and Sierra Pacific Power Company — depending on the location of the property.  The Truckee Sanitary District provides sewer service and Tahoe Truckee Disposal Service collects trash, weekly.

Fun Between the Snowstorms-Truckee, CA

November 21, 2010

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA For once the weathermen were correct and the first big snow storm of this season has played out as predicted so far.  It began late Friday and dumped while we were sleeping.  Then the snow cleared up for a while allowing us to get about on Saturday.   Then it came back in with a vengeance while we were sleeping again last night and we awoke to a total of about 3 feet here in Prosser Lakeview in Truckee.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA My girlfriend has been out of town and I had promised her that I would exercise her doggie (who is my doggie’s best friend) while she was gone so Jennifer and I, Ceilidh, Roxie and Kaiha went for a little snowshoe out behind the Glenshire subdivision.  We broke trail pretty much and so did the dogs.  We were only able to go about a mile all total but all of us got our exercise — as you can see in the photo here.

As much as I am not excited about snowstorms, this has been a really nice one so far.  With just a few breaks and the sunshine streaming through, it really makes you appreciate the season.  I know that the ski areas and ski and snowboard enthusiasts  are just ecstatic over the beginning of a wonderful season.  I can’t remember when the Thanksgiving Holiday has been this well set up for skiers!!!  Come on up and enjoy!!

Terribly off course!

April 26, 2009

This morning I stepped outside of my house and immediately was taken by a very loud and unusual sound. I looked across the pond to see where the sound was coming from and noticed two large birds that I had never seen before. I grabbed my binoculars, bird book and camera and headed down the meadow. Sandhill Crane is what they are and they are among the oldest living birds on the planet! Their home is Nebraska along the Platte River. 3 of the 6 subspecies are migratory however there is no mention of mitratory patterns west of the Rockies.  So I consider myself privileged to have had these two beautiful birds stop by our little Glenshire Pond for a bit of R&R before heading east to Nebraska.

Glenshire Morning – December 2008

December 23, 2008

I drove to work this morning, all the while wishing I could stop my car on the icy, snowy road and take a picture.  This of course would have been extremely unsafe and probably illegal.  I wonder if it is against the law to take pictures while driving in California?  (just kidding).  In any event, I wanted to share what it looks like outside my office in Glenshire, Truckee, California.

About a foot of snow fell last night and dawn brought the promise of a sunny day with blue skies.  In this picture, you can see the clouds rolling back to the east — over towards Nevada and points beyond.  Good ridance for the day.  I know you will be back again tomorrow but for today, I’m enjoying the calm between the storms.

Aren’t I lucky?
