In its 34th year, advertised as running no matter what — rain or shine, the Auburn Ski Club was forced to cancel the Donner Lake Turkey Trot scheduled for Sunday, November 13, 2012.

Citing the concern over the slipperiness of the road, the Truckee Police Department put the kibosh on the race on Thursday afternoon. Sorry everyone — a lot of disappointed runners out there.

I’m going to try to make it around the lake tomorrow without slipping — by myself — not in a race — if you would like to join me, be there at 10:30 am.

A Trip to the Frontier – Plumas & Sierra Counties

Yesterday Jennifer and I had to make a trip to our listing at 12 Moss, located in Loyalton (Sierra County). The home is currently in escrow after only about 10 days on the market — unheard of in these times. The home inspector couldn’t turn on the instant hot water heater so we decided to go see for ourselves. We were successful. Managed to turn it on without blowing ourselves up and test that there really was hot water. Sometimes it is difficult selling a home which is 40 miles up the road — not too many suppliers and/or contractors located up there and, we noticed, everything moves a lot slower.

Since we were up this way, we decided to take our dogs and husbands and get in a short (1 hour) hike in the area of Packer Lake. This summer has been and continues to be green as you can see in the following pictures.

Thursday, June 16th the local Real Estate community was invited to a reception put on by the new owners of the property formerly known as Timlick and now re-named “Schaffer’s Mill”. The subdivision is located in the Martis Valley, just the Truckee side of Northstar, on a private road named Schaffer’s Mill Road. There it resides, alongside the two other resort communities: Lahontan and Martis Camp.

Currently there is just one completed home in the subdivision and quite a few luxury town homes. The home is privately owned and is now on the market for 2.2 million dollars. The town homes, which are elegantly appointed, are being sold by the current developer and range in price from 700k to 900k with a 10% “founders’ discount” opportunity offered. Also for sale are the first offering of developed lots which range in price from 230-330k.

I was impressed by the property. The 18 hole golf course which is currently there and open, is a Johnny Miller/John Harbottle design and according to the developer it os one of Golf Week Magazine’s “Top 100 Residential Courses for 2010.”. To the untrained, non-golfer’s eye (mine), it is one of the most beautiful I have ever seen.

We got the lowdown on the amenity package too. Right now the only amenity that has bee installed is the golf course but a lot of exciting promises were made for the near future. The plan is to have a 47′ Yacht on Lake Tahoe which will be at the disposal of the members. There will also be swimming pools, hot tubs, fitness center, restaurant, clubhouse, outdoor pavilion, tennis courts — many other facilities. You might ask, what will this cost? First of all there are 2 packages. The initiation fee for each is $1000 for now. The golf package’s dues are currently $4500 per year and when the club facilities are completed they will raise to $7800 annually. The social membership package dues which will include all amenities except golf, will be $2700 annually once the club facilities are completed. By the way, currently there are plans to have these memberships open to non-property owners.

Of course there are additional Homeowners association dues – $150 per month and if you purchase a town home an additional $350 per month.

Auction Results From the Resort at Squaw Creek

Saturday April 30^th Kennedy Williams successfully auctioned off the last remaining developer owned units at The Resort at Squaw Creek. The room was filled with bidders, local real estate agents, and auction staff. Estimates of about 75 to 100 people were signed up to bid on the units either in person or via online connection, online bids came from as far away as Hong Kong. Of the 15 units being auctioned only 5 had reserves to be met, they saved these for the last to be auctioned and all met their reserve. The auctioneer gave the bidders a trial run to see how it would play out allowing those in attendance to use their paddle and the online bidder to try out their bid buttons. This proved to be a good strategy in working out the pre-auction gitters and get everybody set to play.

Of the 15 units auctioned there was only a single one bedroom unit that sold for $222,000. All other two bedroom units ranged from $395,000 to $450,000. Of those 6 were on the Valley View side of the building and 9 were Forest Views. The Kennedy Williams Auction was successful in selling off the last of the developer owned units at fair market value, however no screaming deals were made as many had anticipated. Current property owners of RSC are no longer left wondering what affect the auction will have on their values. Here is how it went in order of auction:
