Pumpkins and Fall In the Sierras

October 31, 2008

I took a little ride with my friend Melinda a week or so ago and enjoyed the Apple festival at Apple Hill near Placerville, CA.  We found tons of pumpkins, apples, crafts and even some wine at the La Cava vineyard.  The drive was nice and we managed to get out of there only having consumed one carmel apple apiece and a couple of donuts.

While it is a quaint tradition, the festival has become quite crowded with many cars and busses jockeying for parking places.  The weekend makes it impossible except for younger people who have a lot more patience.  Still, it brings back memories to me of the apple festivals I attended in my native Michigan every fall.  We were after cider, not really apples, as I remember it, but the sentiment was much the same:  the end of the summer with the harvest of the fruit and the iminent expectation of cold, wintry weather.

Sure enough, a couple of days later the snow poles went up on my driveway, put there by my snow removal contractor in anticipation of the white stuff.

Everyone have a happy Halloween and watch out for all of those little ghosts and goblins!!!
