Bye Bye Beautiful Lawn

In an attempt to be conservation minded and save money too, I will be reducing our lawn area by about half of it’s current size. Wouldn’t you know it has never looked better than now – Murphy’s Law at work!

Due to a State of California mandate, water metering will be something we all have in common. Fair enough I guess. There is nothing more frustrating than working hard at cutting back on your water consumption while the guy next door, down the street, or where ever lets his water run unfettered. So soon enough we will be paying for what we use. I choose to use less and leave more money in my pocket. It’s not that I particularly like the idea, but I think it is a reality today and when I see our lakes and reservoirs at a pitiful level, while the fish struggle to survive in our streams and rivers it does seem like now is the right time. And all of us will feel the pinch together. Once we learn how to be more conservation minded, it will be like putting on our seatbelts, we won’t even realize we are doing it!

I have hired Peak Landscape, one of our outstanding local landscapers here in Truckee to help me figure out how to do this gracefully. I’ll let you know how it goes!
