Squaw Valley Hike
November 17, 2008
Yesterday I had a chance to take advantage of the “one more day” syndrome. We locals know that well. It means that it REALLY should be cold and snowy here right now (looking at the calendar) but, it isn’t. So we go outside and try to take advantage of the weather as if we are going to die tomorrow and will never get a chance to see the area again.
I hope you can understand. Winter here is so cold and we have so much snow that, well you just can’t enjoy the outdoors like you can in summer. I mean, you can still enjoy the outdoors, but it is a totally different thing–you have to put on tons of clothes and heavy boots and gloves and all of that stuff.
So according to the “one more day” syndrome, you have to go see the place that will be the most impacted by the change in climate, the earliest. So, of course, we went to Squaw Valley, which 3 weeks from now (or maybe only 1 week) will be blanketed with 4-8 feet of snow. Here are some photos of my friends (notice, one has a charming smile on her face) as we hiked up Shirley Canyon alongside Shirley Creek. Aren’t you jealous?
A Beautiful Fall Day at Tahoe
November 15, 2008
Today is one of those days that makes you really appreciate being alive.
I started it at the gym, got a good work out then headed over to Lake Tahoe to check out the cross country ski swap at the Lake Tahoe Cross County Ski Center. I really needed to find some skis that I could use when I want to step out the back door of my house at Prosser and get a little exercise. None of that track skiing for me. The last pair I had were some that I got from the thrift shop, they are “skating” skis and they are so skinny that it was like balancing on toothpicks for me. I found out that they were about 20 centimeters too long for me too, with long, pointy toes.
The people at the swap were really helpful. They set me up with a pair that have the 3-pin bindings like my shoes. Now I have a brand new (for me) set of skis and I am prepared — well, sort of. I still need to either find my gaitors or get some new ones and I am not too sure of the status of my poles and, oh yeah — I will probably need some new boots and I have really outgrown my pants . . . . you get the picture, but that’s another day.
The trip back home from Lake Tahoe to Truckee was so beautiful. This time of year is always quiet. The calm before the storm, my favorite time of the year. There is no place I would rather be today than right here where I am!!!
Survey says. . .
November 12, 2008
I found this article on Inman News and it seems to indicate that the buyers, or potential buyers, are thinking positively about the new president elect and how he will be helping the country with the housing crisis. The survey accurately depicts what has been happening in my real estate life for the past few years — 40% of the people who consider themselves potential buyers say that they have been sitting on the fence, waiting for better economic times. But, if you read further down the article, most respondents think it will take much more than one year to get them back into the market — only 7% think that they will buy in a year, 17% within 1-5 years. So sit back. The market will turn. When it does, it will be a market we have not seen in years and it will probably for the better. Read the Inman News article here!!
Professional Saleswomen of Nevada
November 11, 2008
Today, I had lunch in Reno, (not too far away since gas has receded to $2.38/gal), at the Atlantis with about 25 women who are members of PSN (Professional Saleswomen of Nevada). The membership is composed of the obvious, from all walks of life and all professions. There are several Real Estate Agents as well as Stock Brokers, Financial Planners, Interior Designing and so on. I was really impressed with the positive energy there and will most likely apply to join their numbers. Sometimes it is difficult living in the mountains, in a small town where this type of organization is not readily available, but I think I can make it once a month. Thanks to Toni Taylor from Coldwell Banker Village Realty for inviting me.
Zumba Dancing
November 11, 2008
Wow, I had coffee with one of my good friends and clients Melanie this morning and got caught up. One of the things that she mentioned is that she is a certified Zumba dance instructor. So of course, me being curious and depending always upon google, when I got back to the office, I checked out Zumba dancing. Talk about a work out, check it out if you dare!! Wish someone would get certified up here. I don’t know how long I could sustain this dancing but it sure looks like fun. Mel says that they dance like this for 45 minutes. . . . whew!!
